Cuttack: The court of judicial magistrate first class (JMFC), Salepur on Thursday allowed the Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch to take arrested suspected Al-Qaeda operative Abdur rehman on a 14-day remand.

According to sources, necessary papers to facilitate the transfer of Rehman back to Odisha has been sent to Tishazari court in Delhi.

Currently, Rehman is under Jharkhand police's remand.

Notably, a joint team of Odisha police and Delhi police special cell had arrested the 37-year-old cleric from Paschim Kachha village near Jagatpur in Cuttack district for his alleged links with terrorist organisation Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS).

Rehman was allegedly tasked with recruitment in the terror organization. Besides, he was running a madrasa at Tangi, 25 km from Cuttack, for the past two years and had appointed five teachers.

Rehman reportedly also had links with a terrorist involved in the Glasgow International Airport attack in Scotland in 2007. Besides, money was also transferred from London to the bank account of the Rehman.
