Jharsuguda: The Congress will today start its Mahanadi Suraksha Samiti rally to protest construction of barrages by the Chhattisgarh government in upstream areas of Mahanadi.

As part of the campaign, the party will organise protest rallies in all districts of Western Odisha, said sources.

Jharsuguda MLA Naba Das leading the Mahanadi Suraksha Samiti will hold a meeting of pundits from different religions at the Nelson Mandela Chhak in Sambalpur this afternoon.

"People from Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sonepur and Bolangir districts in large numbers will join the rally. The protest march will continue until the Mahanadi water dispute is resolved," Das stated.

The Mahanadi Suraksha Samiti rally of Congress is being held on lines of BJD’s Mahanadi Suraksha Abhiyan that commenced on May 16 targeting both Centre and Chhattisgarh Government on the issue.

The campaign was flagged off by party president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

BJD has been holding roadside meetings, shows, bike rallies during the campaign. The party is also sensitising general public on how the Centre and Chhattisgarh Government are working against the interest of the people of Odisha.
