Congress activists gherao Malkangiri Collectorate protesting lapses in paddy procurement

Malkangiri: Alleging lapses in paddy procurement in the district, Congress workers under the leadership of senior party leader Pradeep Majhi today staged a protest in front of the district Collector's office.

As per reports, the activists staged demonstration by keeping sacks of paddy on the road. The protestors alleged that despite having been opened for three months now, the process of paddy procurement is yet to begin at various mandis.

"Despite repeated reminders from district congress committee, the district administration has failed to procure 60% paddy. If the process is not completed at the earliest, the stir will intensify in the days to come," said Majhi.

"While the farmers are spending sleepless nights in cold weather guarding the sacks of paddy, the procurement process is yet to be finished," Majhi added.

The Congress workers further alleged that despite reminding the administration multiple times, no steps have been taken which is why they decided to stage protest before the Collector's office. They have decided to continue the protest till paddy procurement process gets over.
