Bhubaneswar: In an effort to streamline the development of new coal projects by non-CIL companies in Talcher and Ib-valley coalfields, the state Steel and Mines Department is considering for a Comprehensive Master Plans (CMP) and Common Rail-Road Corridors for both coal fields. The department in this regard has written a letter recently to these companies including MCL, NTPC, OPGC and Bhusan to discuss over the matter.

The above coal-blocks allocatee companies are in the process of planning and execution of independent rail-road connectivity projects for their coal-projects in Ib Valley coalfield. To avoid acquisition of lands for connectivity purpose, the state government has proposed to prepare Common Rail-Road Corridors for Ib Valley Coalfields.

The state government through IDCO has assigned the responsibility of preparation of the CMPs of both coalfields to CMPDI. While IDCO has already asked RITES for the feasibility report & DPR of the Common Rail-Road Corridor Project for Talcher coal field, the company is in the process of assigning the feasibility report & DPR study for a Common rail-Road Corridor Project in Ib-Valley coalfield.

The Steel and Mines Department is holding a meeting on June 5 to discuss over the issue.
