Bhubaneswar: Vehemently condemning the death of assistant sub-inspector of police (ASI) Kruparam Majhi by the Maoists on Tuesday, south-western range DIG Soumendra Priyadarshi said that combing operation will be strengthened in the Sunabeda sanctuary area of Nuapada district.  

The top cop said that while the Maoists claim to serve for the upliftment of the tribals, it was sad that an honest police officer was brutally killed by an armed group. "We will retaliate in the coming days," Priyadarshi said.

The family of Majhi, who was posted at Dharmabandha outpost in Nuapada district would receive an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 8 lakh and Rs 10 lakh in insurance. The state government has also assured to give employment to next of Majhi`s kin.  

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday announced that special family pension equal to his last pay will also be given to his family.

Majhi was shot dead by the Maoists on Tuesday while escorting a water tanker to a CRPF base camp near Lodra.
