Bhubaneswar: Odisha is going to get two more universities from the current academic year as the State’s chief minister Naveen Patnaik today approved proposals on according university status to city-based Rama Devi Women’s College and cluster university status to Berhampur-based Khalikote Autonomous College. The State’s Higher Education minister Pradip Panigrahi informed the mediapersons about the development.

The minister added Rs 55 crore will be spent for development of infrastructure of the State’s first women’s university. The unused land of Utkal University will be provided to the women’s college for expanding its campus, he said.

Decisions regarding which colleges will be brought under the women’s university jurisdiction will be taken later.

Earlier this year, the Rashtriya Ucchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), which is sponsored by the Central government, had accepted the State government’s proposal to accord the varsity status to Rama Devi Women's College.

The RUSA had also agreed to give a Cluster University status to Khalikote College, which is currently an autonomous College.
