Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Wednesday rejected a habeas corpus petition filed by chit fund scam accused and local TV channel owner Manoj Das in connection with a remand order passed by the CBI court.
In his petition, Das had argued that the CBI court had sent him to the custody of central investigating agency for a period longer than mandated by law.
The HC, after cross checking the jail records and the supporting documents submitted by the CBI, found no fault in the court order sending Das on CBI remand.
In its judgment, the court said in criminal cases, the CBI is allowed to take an accused on judicial remand for a maximum 15 days.
On September 14, 2014 the CBI had arrested Das in connection with the multi thousand crore Artha Tatwa chit fund scam.
