Bhubaneswar: In a bid to control criminal activities in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, the Commissionerate Police has directed the liquor shop owners to install close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in their shops. The police have ordered the shops, which have not installed CCTV cameras, to do the same by May 25.

According to sources, with the installation of CCTV cameras close surveillance will be maintained on the operations of the liquor shops as well as the activities of the customers over an area of 30 metre. The footage collected by these cameras will be examined by the police every 15 days.

After reports emerged that some owners have not installed the cameras at their liquor shops in the stipulated manner, the Commissionerate Police has said that it would conduct a review of the installation of CCTV cameras at these shops.

The inspectors-in-charge (IICs) of all the police stations have been asked to personally review the installation and ensure that the CCTV cameras have been put in the right place and right manner to provide desired coverage, police commissioner Rajendra Prasad Sharma said.
