Vizag police in Odisha to probe Odia student death
Bhubaneswar: A three-member team of Vizag police visited Chandrasekharpur police station today and collected information on the death of Odia student Shreyas allegedly due to ragging at college hostel in Visakhapatnam.
The team led by IIC of PM Palem police station in Vizag also visited the hospital where Shreyas was undergoing treatment. The investigating officials questioned the hospital staff regarding the treatment.
The team will meet family members of the victim tomorrow at his native place Gadaposh in Sambalpur district.
Shreyas, who was studying in Sri Chaitanya College in Visakhapatnam, was allegedly beaten up by senior students in hostel on January 6. After sustaining critical injuries he was admitted to a hospital in Bhubaneswar and later shifted to Rourkela. He died while undergoing treatment.
The incident triggered outrage in Sambalpur and fellow villagers blocked the national highway and staged demonstration demanding stringent action against the accused.
A police team from Sambalpur also visited Vizag to extract information. The team had met the police Commissioner and college officials yesterday.
