Tension after elephant kills forest staff in Rourkela


Rourkela: A contractual forest personnel of Kuanrmunda range of Rourkela Forest Division was killed in an elephant attack here on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Pati Bebhar.

The incident occurred when Bebhar was trying to drive away an elephant herd that had strayed into the village on Saturday.

Alleging inefficiency and inaction on part of the forest officials, the villagers detained the body and gheraoed some forest officials.

Keeping in view the palpable tension, administrative officials have rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.

However, the locals are demanding concrete measures to keep the wild elephants away from human settlements.
