Srimandir garva griha intact: ASI

Puri: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) today claimed that the garva griha (sanctum sanctorum) of Shri Jagannath temple is intact.

According to reports, a high-level team led by ASI joint director general Rakesh Tiwari and other members, including the ASI superintendent, Odisha branch and technical experts of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) from Kharagpur, Chennai and Roorkee arrived at the temple today and had a detailed inspection of the Jagamohan and the garva griha.

The team later told the media persons that there is no need for repair of the garva griha.

Regarding Jagamohan, the team members said scanning of the entire structure, including the damaged portion, has been completed while the grouting and pocket framing works will be completed before the Niladri Bije of the deities. Chemical cleaning of the Jagamohan would also be completed during the period.

Talking about the permanent repair of Jagamohan, Tiwari said the issue would be discussed threadbare at a review meeting in the presence of the ASI Director General in Bhubaneswar tomorrow. “A blueprint will be prepared at tomorrow’s meeting after which work will begin accordingly,” he added.
