Bhubaneswar: Supreme Court today asked CBI to form a probe team within a week’s time in order to arrest the main accused of the sensational Itishree murder case. Hearing a petition filed by Sudipta Lenka, a Law student in Bengaluru, the apex court also ordered the Central probe agency to submit its report within two months.
Itishree Pradhan, a school teacher at Tikiri in Rayagada district, was set on fire by unidentified person(s) on the night of October 27, 2013, for allegedly refusing to withdraw the molestation case she had filed against inspector of schools Netrananda Dandsena. The 36-year-old victim succumbed to her burn injuries on November 1, 2013, while undergoing treatment in a Vizag hospital.
However, the State government contended itself by dismissing four officials in connection with the killing, that too on the simple charge of delinquency of duty. The accused officials are Dandasena, district inspector of schools Dharanidhar Behera, inspector in-charge of Tikiri police station Sujit Kumar Sai and assistant sub-inspector of police M.D. Pradhan.
In the statement before her death, the victim, who hailed from Delang of Puri district, had said to the local tehsildar that Dandasena had threatened her with dire consequences if she did not withdraw the molestation case and that she had refused to oblige.
On the fateful night, someone set her ablaze while she was fast asleep in the school hostel. Itishree, who had suffered 90 per cent burn injuries, breathed her last at a private hospital based in Vizag of Andhra Pradesh after fighting for life for four days.
