Sarpanch suspended for assaulting Banapur BDO
Bhubaneswar: The Panchayati Raj department today suspended Suresh Chandra Barik, sarpanch of Galua panchayat under Banpur block in Puri district, for allegedly assaulting Banapur block development officer (BDO) Syed Arif Hussain on June 29.
The action followed after a five-member team of OAS Officers’ Association today called on Home secretary Ajit Tripathy and demanded the arrest of Barik besides suspending him from the post.
The delegation also submitted a memorandum addressed to chief minister Naveen Patnaik in this regard and threatened to wear black badges if the State government fails to take action against the accused within three days.
Earlier, the association had lodged a complaint with the Banapur police station after the incident and apprised the director-general of police (DGP) and the Khurda superintendent of police of the matter.
As the police took no action against the assaulter, the association decided at its executive meeting here on Sunday to meet the Home secretary and serve a 72-hour ultimatum.
