Rishi death: Police may call up BMC Mayor for interrogation
Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police, which is investigating into the much-talked-about death of Asutosh Mohanty alias Rishi, an engineering student, today said that they might call BMC Mayor Anant Narayan Jena for interrogation.
Sources in the Commissionerate Police said that on the basis of the allegations by the Student Congress, statement by three friends of Rishi and the demands by the Opposition parties, the Investigating Officer (IO) may call BMC Mayor for interrogation.
Informing the media today, Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said police have called Rishi’s father, mother and sister for interrogation for more information. On the basis of their information, the IO may call Mayor for interrogation if he feels it necessary.
Police are most likely would seek information from Mayor about his link with the sex video, whether he had threatened Rishi who had this video with him and whether he knew Rishi’s girlfriend and her family.
Meanwhile, demanding the resignation of the BMC Mayor, activists of BJP Mahila Morcha took out a rally towards Naveen Niwas holding red bangles and stoles. However, they were held back by the police at Raj Mahal Square.
“We feel that the chief minister has lost his vigour and vitality. Hence, to energise him, we wanted to meet the chief minister and give these bangles to him to regain his strength so that he would be able to take stringent action against the Mayor who is involved in the sex video and the murder of an engineering student,” BJP Mahila Morcha leader Prabhati Parida told newsmen here.
BJP state vice president Samir Mohanty said the chief minister is in charge of Home department. “But the manner in which he is trying to protect the Mayor who has a close link with the sex video, our party has prepared an audio CD which will be circulated among the city denizens to apprise them of the soft corner of the chief minister for the Mayor,” he pointed out.
On the other hand, the absence of the Mayor at the 19th foundation day of the BJD has raised eyebrows in the political circles.
However, the Mayor later came up with a plea by briefing the media that he had informed the chief minister about his inability in attending the event due to frail health of his mother.
Meanwhile, some messages posted by Rishi in the facebook have made the case more mysterious. In his message, Rishi had threatened a man while in other message he had warned a woman.
