Bhubaneswar: The investigating officer probing into the much-talked-death incident of engineering student Asutosh Mohanty alias Rishi questioned three more friends of him at Khandagiri police station here on Sunday.
According to sources, the investigating officer questioned the trio about what they know about the mysterious death of Rishi.
“We don’t know much about Rishi’s girl friend. He only used to play cricket with us and never told us about his girl friend and the sex video,” said a friend of Rishi after quizzing.
Talking to newsmen, Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi, said, “We are recording the statements of Rishi’s friends.”
Asked about Rishi’s girl friend the DCP said, “Right now, I can’t disclose much about her as the investigation is still on.”
Meanwhile, politics have gained momentum over the issue. While the protest of Congress in front of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) continued demanding the arrest of mayor Ananta Naryan Jena for his alleged links with Rishi’s death, BJP questioned why the BJD government has not ordered for an CBI probe into the incident.
Senior Congress leader Jayadev Jena, said, “Congress demands a CBI probe into the incident. If the mayor is resigning from his post, then the chief minister should dismiss him.”
BJP state unit general secretary Prithviraj Harichandan, said, “The chief minister should decide whether to respect the esteem of the people of state or to guard the mayor from his sex slur.”
Reacting on the development, BJD spokesperson, Surya Narayan Patra, said, “Police is investigating into the matter. Then how can we assume whom it is trying to protect.”
Earlier yesterday, the commissionerate police had recorded the statement of three friends of Rishi under section 161 of CrPC in presence of the DCP Satyabrata Bhoi.
