Cuttack/Bhubaneswar: Police Commissioner Yogesh Bahadur Khurania today said five police Inspectors will be brought under the purview of investigation following circulation of their photos with two fraudsters who are presently lodged in Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar.
Talking to media persons here, Khurania said, “At this stage it would be premature to say anything on the matter. Getting clicked with someone at different occasions is not an issue. However, we will probe when and why the pictures were taken and whether the nature of relationship of these police officers with the accused had any impact on their work.”
Notably, eight businessmen had filed complaints alleging accused Prabhat Muduli and Pramod Dora defrauded more than Rs 50 lakh on the pretext of providing contracts for cold drinks and other products supply.
Demanding a probe into the nexus between the police officials and the accused the businessmen today staged a dharna in front of the Commissionerate Police headquarters building before meeting the Police Commissioner.
Bhikari Sahu, a defrauded businessman, said, “We want refund of our money and a thorough probe into the shady deal.”
Feigning ignorance about the activities of the Muduli and Dora and denying of allegations of influencing the probe,
Bimala Barik, IIC, Markatnagar Police Station, said, “I have not asked the arrested persons to commit the crime. Had I requested the investigating official to release the duo, I would have been involved in the crime.”
Circulation of the photos of five Inspectors with the two fraudsters in the media has left many tongues wagging in the city.
