Bhubaneswar: In the wake of Odisha police detaining hundreds of farmers during Naba Nirma Krushak Sangathan’s (NNKS) mass agitation on Thursday, Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, the chief advisor of farmers’ body said the people of Odisha will give a befitting reply to the ruling party for its ‘anti-farmer’ policy.
“You (BJD) can’t throttle the voice of the people of Odisha. How long the ruling party will continue to mislead the people in the name of development? Time has come when the ruling party will get a befitting reply from them”, said Patnaik.
The former parliamentarian’s response followed after BJD spokesperson Sameer Dash stated in the House that the rich and industrialists posing themselves as farmers are leading the farmers for their ‘personal gains.’
Dash alleged that those who are spearheading the agitation never think about the wellbeing of the farmers.
“For their personal gain, the rich and mines owners are showing that they are with the farmers. I want to ask them how many times they have gone to farms”? asked Dash.
Earlier in the day, the Opposition BJP and Congress created ruckus in the House on the issue prompting the Speaker to adjourn it twice.
