Surat: Failing to deposit new notes in time has allegedly taken life of a new born of an Odia family at a hospital here.
The infant, born to Manju Gauda, became critical and the family was asked to deposit Rs 10,000 for its treatment.
However, the family members requested the hospital authorities to receive the old note which the hospital denied to accept. Later, the kin of the baby arranged Rs 5,000 of new notes and by the mean time the hospital discharged the infant patient.
The parents shifted the baby to a government hospital where doctors declared the infant dead.
“They forced us to pay Rs 9,500 in the morning and we had arranged the new notes in the evening. By that time, the infant had already died”, Gopinath Lenka, a relative of the new born, said.
Meanwhile, the hospital authorities denied the allegation of negligence due to delayed payment.
“We had also given them an option to give cheque and continued treatment. But, they did not deposit the amount at all since admission”, Dr Sanjay Nayak of Nisith Hospital said.
