Missing Rourkela youth’s body found under bridge

Rourkela: A youth who was missing since March 13 was found dead under a bridge on NH-143 near Hariharpur in Kuanrmunda area of Sundergarh district.

The deceased has been identified as Arjun Gop, a resident of Rajgangpur who lived on rent in Kunarmunda area along with his elder brother Mahesh. He used to drive a bus in Jharkhand.

Sources said Arjun along with his friend went out to attend one of their friend’s marriage in Khukudabahal area on March 13 but did not return home.

Later some locals spotted his dead body lying under a bridge near Hariharpur and informed the police.

From preliminary probe it was confirmed that Arjun was shot dead, police said, adding that four special teams have been formed to nab the miscreants involved in the murder. Police stations in Rourkela and Rajgangpur have also been informed about the incident to cooperate.

Birmitrapur SDPO Prakash Chandra Patra in a media briefing said “On March 13 night, after having dinner at his friend’s reception, Arjun had a scuffle with his relative  Saroj Nanda and few others including Dileswar and Akhinder. During the fight, the miscreants shot Arjun thrice and also injured his friend who accompanied him. Later, they threw Arjun’s body near the bridge but the whereabouts of his friend who is also suspected to be dead is yet to be ascertained,”

Meanwhile, Arjun’s mother said that he was arrested four years back in connection with an accident case after which he fled home. Later when the police had issued warrant against him he surrendered but the police accused him of being a Maoist and put him behind bars for three years. Arjun was released on bail one year back, his mother said.
