Bhubaneswar: No loss of life or major damage to properties reported in the State due to an earthquake which drove the denizens of Odisha out of their house today at 11.40 am, said an official. The epicenter of the earthquake was at Pokhara in Nepal.
Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradipta Mohapatra said there has been no loss of life in the state.
“We hope there was no loss of life due to the quake. We are collecting reports from the districts for detailed reports about the outcome of the mild tremors,” said Mohapatra.
Sources said the tremors were felt in Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Kendrapara, Puri, Baleswar, Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak and Sonepur. Cracks have appeared in some houses and buildings in these areas, triggering panic.
Sarat Sahu, director of the Indian Meteorological Department, Bhubaneswar, said the intensity of the quake in the state was 2 in the Ritcher scale.
