Lightning kills 5 more in Odisha; toll 45 in two days

Dhenkanal/Nabarangpur: After claiming an incredible 40 lives and leaving 50 others seriously injured on Saturday, the fury of lightning returned to add to five more to the toll on Sunday.

Three of the victims of lightning were from Dhenkanal district: Abhiram Dehuri (50) of Santhasara village in Gondia block, Sadananda Dhal (47) of Ganjeidihi village in Sadar block and Kesab Nayak (38) of Saruali village in Kamakhyanagar block. In Udayagiri village in Kamakhyanagar block, a 12-year-old boy was seriously injured after being struck by lightning while he had gone out to graze goats in the field. He has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital. Besides, 41 goats in this village were also killed in lightning, reports said.

In Nabarangpur district, one person was killed and four others were seriously injured when lightning struck them in Turangi village this afternoon. Another person of Mangapali village in Raighar block was also killed in lightning.
