Bhubaneswar: Taking stern note of the gang rape of a minor girl allegedly by ‘men in uniform, Odisha State Commission for Women (SCW) on Friday registered a case and its team will be shortly visiting the survivor, who is now battling for life at Sahid Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput.

It’s now almost three days that the accused involved in the gang rape are yet to be identified and the SCW team is also expected to meet senior police officials.

On the other hand, a team of Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights also met the survivor at the hospital in Koraput.

“Already we have spoken with local administration on her treatment and other aspects,” said Chairperson of State Commission for Women (SCW), Lopamudra Buxipatra.

Meanwhile, the condition of the minor girl deteriorated and a seven-member inter-disciplinary doctors’ team was constituted for her treatment today.

Raising doubts over the investigation into the matter, Congress leader and opposition chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati questioned as to why the medical report of the survivor has not been made public.

The Koraput district Congress Committee today announced to observe a seven-hour Koraput bandh on Monday protesting Odisha Police’s failure in nabbing the accused. The bandh will be observed from 6 am to 1 pm.

BJD, however, urged opposition parties not to politicize the matter as police investigation is on.
