KIIMS accused of releasing medical waste into Gangua Nullah

Bhubaneswar: Daya-Gangua river Bachao Andolan Samiti on Sunday brought serious allegations against KIIMS (Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences) of polluting Daya river by directly releasing medical waste into Gangua nullah.

During an awareness campaign held in Bhubaneswar today, convenor Basudev Bhatt said,”Waste from KIIMS medical and Falcon Marine Export company is being released into Gangua nullah which is polluting water and affecting agricultural works.”

Bhatt alleged that the water of Daya river has become unfit for human consumption and farming due to the contaminated water of Gangua canal flowing into it.

Similarly, member of Zilla Parishad of zone no 30, Kunal Rout, who is currently running a cleanliness campaign alleged that the KIIMS authorities are major polluters.

“This water was crystal clear about 10 to 12 years back. But now it is full of waste material disposed by authorities of KIIMS and some other companies,” said Rout.

Rout added that he along with a team is trying their best to make the water body clean so that people can use this for drinking and agriculture purpose.

Meanwhile, KIIMS authorities could not be contacted over the allegations.
