Jayanarayan at it again; wields sword in public
Sambalpur: Despite restrictions imposed on display of weapons during a public function, BJP leader and former Sambalpur MLA Jaynarayan Mishra wielded a sword at the Hanuman Jayanti celebrations on Wednesday. According to sources, Jaynarayan was seen wielding a sword in the presence of police personnel.
A scuffle broke out as police tried to prevent Jaynarayan from wielding the sword.
“I don’t know about any restrictions. While the Sambalpur police didn’t get a whiff about terrorists staying in the city for a week and is yet to conclude its investigations; it is trying to stop the innocent public from observing their century-old tradition. This is condemnable,” said Jaynarayan.
Sources informed that two women have been detained for allegedly supplying sword to Jaynarayan.
Commenting on the incident, Sambalpur SP said that appropriate action will be taken as per law.
Notably, Jayanarayan landed in jail for allegedly wielding a sword during Hanuman Jayanti celebrations last year.
Earlier today, during the Akhada procession organised on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, participants were also seen displaying weapons. Despite restrictions, the Hanuman Jayanti coordination committee is adamant on its stand of wielding weapons during the celebrations citing centuries-old tradition.
