Puri: The Archeological Survey of India (ASI) has approved the proposal for protecting the roof of Puri Jagannath temple’s prayer hall or Jagamohan.
A high level technical experts’ core team would be visiting the sacred shrine for taking stock of the situation on May 23, official sources said here on Saturday.
Once the experts’ core team completes the work for design and estimate, the work for the Jagamohan roof repair will be undertaken after the plans are approved, ASI sources said.
Sources said, the roof of the Jagamohan mainly rests on four central stone columns (pillars) which are supported with eight stone beams.
As cracks have appeared on the beams and pillars, the work for installation of stainless steel portal frame supporting the stone beams is underway at Puri temple.
The process to install steel structures is being undertaken to support cracked stone beams inside Puri Jagannath temple‘s prayer hall or Jagmohan.
36 fabricated stainless steel beams of various shapes and sizes will be placed at the top of the 16 pillars to complete the support system. All these structures will be part of the box type portal frame, sources said.
