Bhubaneswar/Balasore: The Crime Branch (CB) of Odisha Police will interrogate Ishwar Chandra Behera, accused of spying for Pakistani military spy agency Inter-Services intelligence (ISI), today. “Behera has been remanded to CB custody for six days and we’ll quiz him today,” an official said.
The CB took over the investigation on the orders of DGP Sanjiv Marik yesterday and a three-member team was sent to Balasore to take custody of Behera, who was working as a contractual videographer with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at Chandipur.
On Wednesday, the Balasore SDJM court had allowed the local police to take the accused on a seven-day remand for interrogation.
Ishwar was arrested by Balasore police on January 23 after being put under surveillance for months following an intelligence tip-off about his suspicious activities. He was charged under Sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 121-A (treason) of IPC and several provisions of Official Secrets Act.
Employed on a contractual basis to work in the CCTV section of the control tower, Behera had access to all vital installations and sensitive areas of the test facilities in the DRDO making it convenient for him to keep tab on the scientists, sources said.
