Rayagada: In a major security breach, an inmate of Rayagada sub jail was allegedly attacked by a group of prisoners over past enmity.
The victim has been identified as Tirtha Kumar Sahoo, who is lodged in the jail on charges of illegal cattle trafficking.
According to sources, the incident took place when Sahoo was returning to jail after submitting a petition to prison officials.
Four inmates of the jail attacked Sahoo leaving him seriously injured. Sahoo was admitted to a local hospital, the sources added.
“They attacked me with a piece of wood when I was returning after submitting a prison petition. They thrashed me mercilessly,” Sahoo alleged.
When contacted, Rajkishore Nayak, superintendent of the jail, said, “Four to five inmates of the jail attacked Sahoo over some past enmity. We have informed the local police about the incident.”
