Gamangs’ drama continues: Father denies reports, son reasserts

Bhubaneswar: Congress veteran Giridhar Gamang’s son Sisir’s five-day ultimatum understandably to the grand-old party is not over and so is the political drama of the father-son duo.

After days of speculations, the former chief minister today vehemently refuted guesstimates of quitting Congress. But the latest twist in the tale is Sisir again came to the picture after his father’s statement, only to assert that his father has not yet denied about leaving the party.

“He (Giridhar) has not told that he is leaving the party. He only said that neither he has approached any party nor any party invited him to join,” said Sisir. “Wait, you will get to know (very soon),” he quipped throwing enough fuel to the burning fire.

Earlier in the day, speaking for the first time since reports of him parting ways with Congress started making rounds, Gamang said that neither he has contacted any party nor he has been approached by any party.

Coming down hard on the reports published in the media, Gamang said he was not contacted before publishing such news. “I think answer to all questions is very easy as I have not left the party. I have not talked to any party as speculated,” Gamang said.

The speculations over the nine-time MP quitting Congress gathered momentum after Sisir stated that “some major change is going to happen” in the political career of his father within five days. He only added fuel to the fire when he sought to clarify yesterday that the former would join a national party.

“If my father joins any party tomorrow, it would be a national party. There is no question of joining any regional player,” Sisir said, apparently putting all doubts to rest and clearly indicating that his father will be joining BJP as there is no other national party in Odisha other than the saffron party.

Now, with only two days left for Sisir’s ultimatum to be over, political circles in the State have kept their fingers crossed and adopted a wait-and-watch policy till the final drama is unraveled.
