Bhubaneswar: After the ‘monkey menace’ on April 8, it was now the turn of ‘fox menace’ to grapple with for the authorities at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here. Unlike the monkey that gave a torrid time to the authorities, however, the wild fox walked straight into a trap set precisely for this purpose last night.
Officials of the Biju Patnaik International airport here said they found a fox trapped inside a cage placed at a strategic location near the air traffic control (ATC) tower of the airport’s old terminal this morning.
“The animal was frequenting the airport in search of prey. It was a real headache for us after we experienced the monkey drama nearly 10 days ago. Then we planned to lay an animal trap to catch it,” said an employee of the airport engaged in the operation.
The rescued animal has been handed over to forest officials.
On April 8, after a harrowing ordeal which lasted nearly eight hours, forest officials from Nandankanan Zoo managed to bring down a monkey, which had settled on the truss of the airport’s new terminal.
The team had to use tranquilisers to tame the monkey, after all attempts to capture it by authorities of the airport and personnel of Forest department failed.
