Bhubaneswar: Odisha Fire Service Department conducted a mock drill at BMC Bhawani Mall here today as part of an initiative to make people aware about the steps that can be taken if such crowded buildings ever catch fire.
Various methods to douse flames and rescue persons trapped inside such buildings during a mishap were presented during the drill.
“We checked the fire fighting system in the mall and conducted fire fighting and rescue operations. Our team supported the staff of the mall during the operation. It will continue in future and our department will conduct such capacity building programmes if requests are received from any other place also,” said a fire department official.
Fire service personnel along with staff of BMC Bhawani Mall took part in the drill.
“We are conducting mock drill every month. The fire trainers arrive here to train our staff and people visiting the mall. We have a team specially to manage evacuation and there are firefighting and rescue operations teams also,” said Manager of BMC Bhawani Mall Sandeep Singh.
