Puri: In a heart rending incident, a boy was swept away in a river here while trying to save his Board certificates on Monday.

The tragic incident occurred when the victim Ratnakar Sahu of Baseli Sahi in Puri district was on his way to Gopa College along with one of his friends on bike to submit the admission form for Plus 3 course. A bus suddenly crossed them on the bridge blowing away all his academic certificates to the river.

With no choice left, Sahu jumped into the river. He had the certificates saved for a while, holding them in his mouth. But while he was returning suddenly he got sucked into a hidden whirlpool.

People informed the fire brigade but the latter could not find the boy. However, on Tuesday, the floating dead body of Sahu was spotted and fished out.

“He told me he was going to Gopa College for submitting the admission form and went out of the house after taking the blessings of his mother. But he lost his life here, my son will not return ever,” said the grieved father Hadibandhu.
