Cuttack: Once again the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) has raised concern over overcrowding of animals at the sole deer park at Madhusudan Nagar maintained by the authorities of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).

Director of Tata Steel Zoological park Bipul Chakraborty on behalf of the CZA on Thursday evaluated the status and facilities at the deer park in Cuttack and advised the civic body officials to speed up the process for the construction of the second deer park for relocating
excess animals.

At present there are 173 animals at the deer park in Cuttack while as per norms only 15 deer can be kept in 2. 5 acres of land.

However, Chakraborty expressed satisfaction over the maintenance and overall development of infrastructure and animal care facilities at the deer park during the routine inspection here today.

“There has been massive development work here but the question of overcrowding of animals still persists. We have asked CMC to speed up the work for relocating excess animals at the earliest,” said Chakraborty.

The CZA officials today also inspected the proposed site at Mundali in the outskirts of city identified by CMC for setting up the second deer park. The proposed second deer park is expected to come up in over 43 acres of land.

“The site is ideal one and with proper landscaping and other facilities a good deer park can come up. The CMC officials should also take proper measures for early completion of the land acquisition work,” the official added

Senior CMC officials on the other hand informed that already temporary arrangements in the form of barricades have been made for segregating the male and female deer for putting a check on the animal population at the existing Madhusudan Nagar deer park.

“Already a master plan is being prepared for setting up of the second deer park which would be helpful in relocating the excess animals. We hope that the work will start after the land is transferred to us,” said local councilor Ramzan Khan.
