Bhubaneswar: Civil society organisations have alleged that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the multi-crore chit fund scam in Odisha has slowed down its investigation process due to a ‘nexus’ between the ruling BJD and the BJP at the Centre.
“It is clearly visible in the way the investigation is going on by the CBI. Why is it taking so much time to frame people involved in it?” asked RTI activist Pradeep Pradhan, who is spearheading the agitation.
“The CBI’s investigation is progressing at snail’s pace only because of the secret deal between the BJP and BJD. Since many BJD leaders are involved in the scam, the ruling party has struck a deal with the BJP. The saffron party, in turn, is getting support from the regional party in the parliament…. The inquiry must be expedited and BJD leaders involved in the scam should be arrested at the earliest,” stated Pradhan.
As many as 28 groups under the umbrella organisation staged a demonstration in front of the CBI office today and questioned the progress of the investigation. They also demanded that the Pajero vehicle controversy involving Food and Civil Supplies minister Sanjay Dasburma should be investigated.
“Why has the CBI not taken any steps against Dasburma despite his links with the AT chief and others? Is the agency only buying time?” asked a member of the organisation.
Meanwhile, BJD has refuted the allegations.
“The CBI has observed that Sanjay Dasburma has no role in the chit fund scam. And we should not suspect the premier investigating agency’s investigation process,” BJD spokesperson Pratap Jena said.
