Berhampur: Berhampur police on Saturday filed another land grab case against former Sanakhemundi legislator Ramesh Jena.
Police said based on a complaint, a case has been registered against Jena, his father Arakhita Jena and Congress corporator R Murali Mohan at Bada Bazar police station.
On Wednesday, the police had arrested Mohan in connection with a land-grab case. Murali is a close associate of Jena, who has allegedly grabbed prime residential land at Gandhinagar from an individual by threatening him, police said.
The ex-MLA’s father and two builders Bighnesh Sahu and Krushna Chandra Sahani are also allegedly involved in it. While Jena, his father and Sahu have been arrested, Sahani is on the run.
“The accused were arrested based on the complaints of Amarendra Patra, the land owner and after thorough investigation,” said SP (Berhampur) Sarthak Sarangi.
Ever since the land grab and other criminal activities of Jena surfaced, police have detained several of his aides and started probe into his activities outside the state, including Visakhapatnam and Jharkhand.
Policemen have seized land-related documents from the house of one of his associates during raids. Investigating officials said they have so far seized over 100 land documents from the houses of Jena here and Gambhariguda.
Police also suspect that Jena had links with gangster siblings Sushant and Sushil Dhal Samant.
Police said Jena might be supplying firearms to the brothers through his aide Sushant Behera. “It can only be confirmed only after Behera’s interrogation,” said police.
Today, Behera was sent on a two-day remand to Berhampur police in connection with his links with Jena.
