New Delhi: Odia youth Prabhas Ranjan Samal, who was kidnapped by ISIS militants in Lybia and freed later, arrived in Delhi on Thursday.

“I express my profound gratitude to the Government of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj and Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda for their relentless efforts for my safe release”, Samal told the DD News after his arrival in the national capital.

A native of Karilopatna village under Marsaghai block in Kendrapara district Samal said he was working as a biomedical engineer in a hospital in Sirte in Lybia since 2002 all through the troubled period.

“Since 2011, we have been sensing difficulties in every passing day. But as health workers, we considered ourselves as social workers. We did not expect that the health workers will be of specific target for any kind of terror groups. But one night, some groups came and raided our hospital quarters and asked us to follow them. We were blindfolded and taken to some undisclosed locations. With me, there was an Indian. We were held captive for about 10 days. I don’t know about the other people who were held captive. On the 10th day, I was released with the help of some influential locals. From there, I reached Tripoli and the Indian Embassy and the Embassy officials made all arrangements for my arrival in Delhi,” Samal said.

Narrating his traumatic experience during his 10-day captivity, Samal said he was uncertain as to what is going to happen next.

“Considering these terror groups, possibly the ISIS, the action which it taking, we were traumatized. Every moment was a moment of uncertainty,” he added.

Meanwhile, the joy of the family members of Samal knew no bounds after they came to know about his arrival in New Delhi.
