Berhampur: Panic gripped passengers after a boat in which they were travelling got stranded in Chilika Lake for over an hour on Tuesday. Sources said the boat developed some ‘mechanical snag’ soon after it had left Janhakuda ghat with 36 passengers on board.

Though the boatman tried his best to repair the mechanical glitch, he failed to restart the boat.

Sources said the boat was on its way to Satpada when it developed some glitches during the journey midway.

Following the incident, all the stranded passengers were rescued and brought to shore with the help of another boat.

It is pertinent to mention here that six persons had died after a boat had capsized in Chilika Lake following a thunderstorm on June 16.

The incident had occurred when the boat carrying 18 passengers from Bhubaneswar and Nayagarh including the boatman was returning from Kalijai to Balugaon.
