Bhubaneswar: The ruling BJD will stage a dharna in front of the Raj Bhawan today as a mark of protest against the Polavaram project and will submit a memorandum addressed to President Pranab Mukherjee through the Governor.

Moreover, in a bid to intensify its stir against the project, the party will stage protests on September 20 in front of the district collector offices in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Kandhamal. Moreover, the party will carry out a peaceful ‘Hartaal’ on October 7 in all seven districts of Southern Odisha.

To supervise the protests, party supremo Naveen Patnaik has appointed observers and co-observers.
BJD has been alleging that the Polavaram project will submerge parts of Malkangiri and Rayagada. Citing that that the approval of the project is a testament of Central and Andhra governments’ anti-Odisha policy, BJD is demanding cancellation of the environmental clearances given to the project by violating norms.

On the other hand, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu carried out an ariel review of the progress of the Polavaram project yesterday. With the central government bearing all the project cost, N Chandrbabu Naidu expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi after concluding his review of the project. The Andhra CM said that the first phase work of the project will conclude by 2018 and his government will make this dream come true.

According to sources, the Andhra CM will be reviewing the project every week through a camera installed at the project site and will visit the project site on the third Monday of every month.
