Dhenkanal: The officials of the Directorate of Factories and Boilers have sealed the ill-fated blast furnace (II) of Bhushan steel plant at Meramundali, about 30 km from here in the presence of the officials of district administration and Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB).
 
The Thursday move followed the prohibition order from Directorate of Factories and Boilers, in connection with yesterday’s explosion at the furnace site that claimed the life of a worker and left 15 others injured.

Meanwhile, three officials of the company have been arrested by the police in connection with the mishap and a case has been arrested at Bhushan police station.
 
“Based on the report given by assistant director of Factories and Boilers a case has been registered. We have also arrested three officials of Bhushan steel plant in this connection,” Manoranjan Mohanty, SP, Dhenkanal said.
 
The officials against whom the case is registered are Chief of Operation Atulya Verma, Manager Naveen Tyagi and Iron melting shift in-charge Meghpal Singh. They were arrested under section 287 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery), section 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), section 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), section 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder), section 34 (acts done by several persons in the commission of offences) of IPC besides section 92 of Factory Act.
 
“They all will be produced in court today,” the SP said.
 
On the basis of an inspection report of a four-member team of the Factory and Boiler Directorate, the district administration has sealed the new blast furnace area of the steel plant at Meramunduli.
 
"The police are guarding the accident site and the area is sealed. If there are other bodies, the police and fire officials will find out," district collector Roopa Roshan Sahu said.
 
The explosion had occurred at the blast furnace (II) of the company at around 10 am yesterday.
