Bhubaneswar: With resentment brewing within Odisha Congress over the one-man-one-post formula, party's working committee president Bhakta Charan Das today disapproved the strategy and said all office bearers can contest elections.

Speaking to OTV over party chief Niranjan Patnaik’s one-man-one-post formula, Das said "Any office bearer can contest elections and the probability of victory will be the only yardstick."

Das further said that those with good organisation in their respective areas can also contest elections.

With an aim to strengthen the party before the 2019 general elections, Odisha Congress leadership came up with the idea a few days back. However, it has drawn criticisms from various party leaders.

The Congress leadership advocated one-man-one-post strategy citing that all potential candidates for the upcoming general elections should relinquish their office-bearer posts so that the party members who have less chances of winning could be appointed in posts like that of a district president.

Besides, the party leaders were advised to follow Salepur MLA Prakash Behera, who quit the post of the party’s Cuttack district president.

Earlier, Khurda district committee president, Suresh Routray had opposed the policy and said it should also be applied to Niranjan and two other MLAs who are working presidents of the party.
