Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly on Wednesday plunged into bedlam after the ruling MLAs alleged the connivance of Congress leaders in the kidnapping and murder of a Pattamundai school student in Kendrapara district that rocked the whole state a week ago.

Raising the issue in zero hour, Rajnagar BJD MLA Alekh Jena alleged that the heinous crime that claimed the life of the class VII student was committed at the behest of some Congress leaders. Jena said that the incident has sent shock waves among parents of the area and demanded a Crime Branch probe into the matter.

Several other BJD members including Atanu Sabyasachi, Ved Prakash Agarwal and Sipra Mallick too voiced their concern over the issue and drew attention of the speaker.

Unmoved by the allegation, members of the Opposition Congress took the adjournment motion route to counter the attack.

Opposition chief whip Prasad Harichandan stated it was unfortunate that the speaker was not accepting adjournment motion on several issues for past two days.

He alleged that since the party had served notice to oust the speaker, the latter was favouring the ruling party by not accepting the adjournment motion for a discussion.

In a reply the speaker said while Wednesday’s motion was not based on a recent issue the previous day’s topic was delayedly placed for discussion.
