Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough, the Commissionerate Police on Thursday arrested a notorious thief, who is a graduate in Bachelor in Business Administration, and seized cash and other items worth lakhs from his possession. It is believed that the accused had looted properties worth over Rs 60 lakh in the past one and a half year.

The Chandrasekharpur Police nabbed Sanjay Kumar Nish of Atri village under Khurda police limits, and seized 778 gm gold, 796 gm silver jewellery, 6 laptops, 43 mobiles, 29 watches, 2 LED TVs, 3 digital cameras, tablets and wallets.

Passports, debit & credit cards, Aadhaar cards, computer hard disks, calculators, guitars and music systems were also seized from his possession.

As per reports, Nish used to lead a lavish life with the stolen money. He also used to give away expensive gifts to his girlfriend.

Nish started stealing in apartments and showrooms around one and a half year ago. Several cases are pending against him at different police stations in the district, informed Police sources. A few days ago, police got some clues on his whereabouts by tracking a mobile phone he had stolen.

Along with the 33 different items sized from him, we have also seized a bike, added police sources.

"We have taken him into custody for interrogation," said a police official.
