Ban on pics in govt ads: BJD for review petition

Bhubaneswar: A day after Supreme Court restrained ruling parties from publishing photographs of political leaders or prominent persons in government-funded advertisements, the ruling BJD today sought a review petition against the apex court order.

“I think that a review petition should be filed against the order. The committee, which was set up by the SC to look into the matter, also had recommended seeking suggestions of the States as well as the governors in this regard,” party spokesperson Sameer Das said.

“After analysing the order, the State government will take timely and appropriate action,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the State unit of Congress party has welcomed the decision. “This is a welcome decision of the apex court. It will certainly help reduce misutilisation of power,” party spokesperson Bhakta Charan Das said.
