Mayurbhhanj: Palpable tension prevailed at Udala sub-divisional hospital after three drunken youths allegedly attacked a doctor and security personnel on Saturday night.

Protesting the attack, doctors and other hospital staff staged a dharna in front of the outpatient department today. The medical services have been affected due to strike by the doctors and hospital staff.

The agitating doctors and staff are demanding the immediate arrest of the three accused youths who have been detained in connection with the incident.

As per reports, the youths had come to the hospital in an inebriated state for treatment after meeting with an accident yesterday. However, the trio attacked the doctor when he asked their names for prescribing medicines.

The youths also assaulted the security guards and ransacked furniture inside the hospital.

“As soon as the youths turned up at the hospital, immediate treatment was provided. Later, when I asked their names so that medicines can be prescribed, they threatened me and insisted only suggesting the medicines only. But when I again asked their names, they manhandled me and ransacked table and chair in the room,” said Dr Bijay Ketan Das.

“When the concerned doctor on duty was prescribing medicines, the youths started shouting and created nuisance. When we rushed to stop them, they attacked us too,” said a Manoranjan Sahoo, a security guard.

Later, police rushed to the spot and detained the youths for interrogation.
