Amit Shah takes jibe at Naveen; infuses new vigour into party activists
Bhubaneswar: BJP national chief Amit Shah today criticised Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over the Ratna Bhandar key controversy and pointed out that the Odisha government has failed to protect the faith of Odias.
Shah also took dig at the State government over funding of different schemes by the Centre. “Programmes and schemes worth Rs 4 lakh crore have been planned for Odisha of which more than Rs 2.11 lakh crore have already been disbursed. Despite all support, the state government has failed to carry out development work in the State, said Shah.
While Shah avoided speaking to media, he infused new vigour into party activists in a close-door meeting at the party office in Bhubaneswar.
In the first phase, he held meeting with in-charges of the 21 Parliamentary constituencies whereas he motivated the party ‘Vistaraks’ to make efforts to strengthen the organisation. Shah spoke to Panchayat heads during the second phase of his meeting at the same venue. He asked chairpersons of ‘Shakti Kendras’ and party booth committees to make door-to-door visits and spread message on achievements of the Central government and failures of the State government led by Naveen Patnaik through leaflets.
“The party is progressing well in all respects in Odisha. We expect that under the guidance of Amit Shah, the party will come to power in the ensuing poll,” State BJP president Basant Panda said.
BJP national secretary Suresh Pujari said, “We will utilise all resources and power to reach out to people of the State. Work has begun and the party will be in top gear before the polls begin.”
“BJP will work without any break until the goal is achieved. The government, which failed to protect the Sri Jagannath temple keys safeguard the interests of people of the state,” reiterated BJP MLA Pradip Purohit.
Achievements of BJP at the Center in past four years should be told to people of the State. Besides, awareness on failures of the State government should be created among masses. “Amit Shah has given the directive to the party activists on the same,” Ram Narayan Mohanty, general secretary of Cuttack district unit of BJP.
Reacting to Shah’s attack on the State government, BJD spokesperson Pratap Deb said, “The same things have been told by saffron party leaders earlier too. They (BJP leaders) are lying and presenting half-truth before people of the State. The Center says good things about the state while conferring award whereas leaders of BJP during their visits here, issue contradictory statements with sheer political motive.”
On the other hand OPCC chief Niranjan Patnaik said, “BJP is in a very weak position in Odisha and the saffron party leaders are working to strengthen their base here. Keeping in view the party’s position across the country, Amit Shah’s focus has now shifted to Odisha. This is the reason why he keeps visiting the State frequently.”
