Paradip: What was meant to be a Sunday outing of fun and frolic turned into a nightmare for a group of six students of All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar when one of them went missing while taking bath at Mahanadi river mouth here today.

The missing student has been identified as Asil KC of Kerala, said police IIC Anirudha Routray. “A marine boat and some other country boats have been engaged to fish out the missing student. The search operation is on. Hopefully, we will trace him very soon,” he said.

The six medical science students went to the port area for a picnic in the morning. The shocking incident occurred when all of them were enjoying a bath at the river mouth. Asil slips into the deep of water and went missing, sources said.

The area is considered a ‘no entry zone’ as it is the confluence point of the river and the sea. Police patrolling is being conducted to create awareness. “As it is a vast stretch, police failed to prevent outsiders from entering the water,” the police officer pointed out.
