5 of family killed as truck rams into house

Sonepur: In a tragic accident, five members of a family killed as a truck ran over a roadside house in Cheurpali near Sonepur late last night.

Sources said the deceased were fast asleep in their house when the driver of the heavy vehicle lost control and crashed into the house crushing them all. The driver and helper of the truck, which was moving from Bargarh towards Bolangir on National Highway (NH) No-26, fled the spot.

The deceased were identified as Naveen Kumar Bag, wife Binodini, sister Brundabati, son Gosanta and daughter Jayanti.

Later, locals staged a blockade on the NH keeping the bodies on the road and demanded adequate compensation for the closest relative of the victim family. The agitators relented after the district administration intervened.
