Berhampur: The police on Monday arrested 38 persons of Sana Arjeepalli village in Ganjam district on the charge of their alleged involvement in a group clash in which one person was killed and 12 others injured yesterday, the police said.

While 21 persons arrested belonged to one group, the remaining people were from the other one.

Two platoons of police forces were deployed in the cyclone-hit village inhabited mainly by fishermen and the situation was under control, the police said.

The clash between the two groups occurred over selection of village committee and 30-year-old M. Tateya was killed.

Trouble started in the village on October 16 after a group of villagers formed a new committee to distribute relief to the cyclone-affected people, which was not accepted by the existing committee.

Police intervened in the dispute and called a meeting on November 10 to select the new committee, which turned violent.
