Bhubaneswar: The festival of Holi today turned into tragedy for some in the state where as many as 24 lives were lost and 28 injured due to road accidents and drowning.

According to reports, 17 people were killed in road accidents and 7 others lost their live in drowning while taking bath after celebrating Holi.

In a road accident near Ansol, in Nimapada two persons died, when the bike in which they were travelling in hit a roadside tree. Similarly, in another mishap one killed near Solapur bridge in Gopa.

According to sources, in two separate accidents in Berhempur, two persons lost their lives while in another road mishap in Patnagada two persons died.

In another tragic incident, two persons were killed on Bhubaneswar-Puri highway when their bike had a head on collision with a bus coming from opposite direction. As many as 20 passengers in the bus sustained injuries as the bus lost its control and over turns after the collision.

Similarly in another road mishap near Rairangpur-Jasipur, one death report has been registered.

Drowning deaths have also been reported from Jajpur and Salepur block of Cuttack.

Two girl students drowned in the Kharasrota river in the Jajpur district while a youth also died while bathing in Chitrotpala river under Salepur block of Cuttack district, after playing Holi.

Meanwhile, two people were injured in a group clash between Sagadia Sahi and Bhandari Sahi in Cuttack.
