Baripada: Two students were injured after an unidentified miscreant attacked them with sharp weapon at Saraskana in Baripada in the wee hours on Sunday.

The two students, Sandeep Hansda of Class VI and Manoj Mahanta of Class IX of Sishu Vidya Mandir, are now undergoing treatment at Baripada Hospital.

Sandeep has received critical injuries on his neck. The condition of both the students is stated to be stable now, sources said.

According to sources the incident took place when the duo had gone to nearby bush to attend nature's call late on Saturday night. The 'unidentified' attacker first attacked Sandeep.

On hearing Sandeep's scream, Manoj jumped to his rescue and gave a tough fight to attacker. Later, both the children somehow managed to escape from the spot and informed school authorities about the incident.

"The two children had gone nearby to attend nature's call at around 4 am without informing anyone. When we saw the kids running towards the school and profusely bleeding, we rushed to the spot to nab the attacker. However, taking advantage of the darkness, the miscreants fled the spot," said Biplab Prusti, a teacher of the school.

Though the exact reason behind the attack is yet unclear, the school authorities have lodged a police complaint in connection with the incident.
