Guwahati: The Assam state unit of BJP on Wednesday accused the ruling Congress of trying to rope in the arrested and released top ULFA leaders for talks to fulfill its "narrow political design".

"The euphoria for talks which is created by the government is just a gimmick. This will only help the ruling party and hoodwink the people," party`s state unit President, Ranjit Dutta told reporters here.

Pointing that BJP was also in favour of talks to end the vexed insurgency problem of the state, Dutta alleged that the state government had failed to stop the released ULFA leaders from raising a slogan which was "undemocratic".

"This is a criminal offence (of allowing the released leaders and their supporters of raising ULFA slogan) and the Tarun Gogoi led government has failed to stop this," the BJP leader said.

Dutta, however, hoped that politically aware voters of the state would not allow the Congress to be successful in its design and defeat the party in the ensuing Assembly elections.
